Can two companies have the same name in India?
No — the MCA's name check system prevents registration of identical or 'phonetically similar' company names. Your name must be unique across all 33+ lakh registered companies.
What names are prohibited for company registration?
Names containing reserved words (India, National, Government, Reserve, Bank, Insurance) require prior approval. Generic descriptive names may be rejected. Names identical to existing trademarks may also be objected to.
